What is ‘security for expenses’?

If, during a renovation such as an extension or a basement conversion, there is a chance works will affect a neighbours’ property, the building owner may be asked to put in place ‘security for expenses’. This is a legal term used in the Party Wall Act and usually requires money to be securely set aside so costs can be recovered in the unfortunate case anything goes wrong.
